We know, we know, August still feels so far away. But don’t fret! We’re pleased to announce we’ll have shows for you in April and May too – and tickets for the April shows are on sale now!
Announcing the April Saturday Series for Kids!
Puppets Up!, in partnership with the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, is thrilled to be presenting a series of three incredible, family-friendly shows coming to town in April. Each show runs at 11 am and 3 pm at the museum and is suitable for ages 4 – 10.
April 2 – Pirate Treasure! (Rock the Arts Puppets)
Laugh along with Rock the Arts Puppets and the Pirates of Creatureville. Led by Sarah Argue, Rock the Arts Puppets have developed six shows and toured across Canada. Sarah and her creatures celebrate kindness, laughter, and imagination. Set sail with Creatureville’s comical pirates as they uncover shiny treasure and random carrots!
April 9 – Punch & Judy: The Silly Version (Bob Stutt)
Revisit the antics of Punch & Judy with master puppeteer Bob Stutt. Known for his work on TV shows like Fraggle Rock, Under the Umbrella Tree, and The Big Comfy Couch, Bob is a friendly, funny, fantastic performer in person, too. Watch out – Iggy the Iguana may show up, as well!
April 23 – Felicity Falls (Rag & Bone Puppet Theatre)
A group of stuffed animal friends find a new home in the Ottawa Valley in this heartwarming play from Rag & Bone Puppet Theatre. John Nolan and Kathy MacLellan have been delighting audiences for decades, with lively puppet shows based on traditional tales and Canadian stories. Felicity Falls presents a series of short vignettes, where the show follows their everyday lives as they build their home and their community.
The Saturday Series is graciously sponsored by Mill Street Books, Kentfield Kids and Gilligallou Bird, so please remember to thank these incredible local merchants next time you’re in their Mill Street stores!
Tickets are on sale now for only $12.50 at Tickets Please!
Save the date: The Hound of the Basketballs
And don’t worry, grown-ups, we haven’t forgotten you! A cast of nationally renowned puppeteers (and their puppets of course), are busy rehearsing the soon-to-be infamous Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Basketballs, a funny, irreverent and at times bawdy puppetry take-off of the most widely read of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories.
This original show, written by Ottawa’s Allan Martin and directed by Almonte’s own Joey Graff, is coming to the Almonte Old Town Hall for evening performances May 12-14 and a matinee on May 15. The show features puppets by Noreen Young and costumes by Ingrid Hamster.
The locally inspired characters and plot twists in this tongue-in-cheek production promise to keep audiences in stitches. Better to leave the kids at home for this one.
Tickets will be available in early April at ticketsplease.ca. Mark your calendars now and keep your eyes peeled for more information in the coming weeks!
