PuppetCon workshop
A Tour of Puppetry: Introduction to Different Types of Puppets
The aim of this workshop is to give participants the opportunity to see and try out different types of puppets: hand, rod, string (marionettes), Ttable-top/Bunraku-style, shadow puppetry, object theatre, TV puppetry plus a mascot-style body puppet and humanette puppets. Excerpts from shows using these types of puppets (maximum 2 – 3 minutes) will be shown before the live demonstration and try-on. All you need to bring is your curiosity. Have fun trying out the different kinds of puppets! Special thanks to Théâtre de l’Oeil and Noreen Young for sharing puppets from their productions for this workshop.
Host: Graham Soul
Passionate about puppetry since childhood, Graham Soul has been working as a professional puppeteer since 1993, in theatre (Théâtre de l’Oeil, Théâtre de la Dame de Coeur, Théâtre Sans Fil), in film (Higglety, Pigglety, Pop by NFB/Warner Bros Home Video and 3 short films by Dock Films) and in television (Hugo and the Dragon by CBC/Radio-Canada/TFO and commercials for Le Poulet du Québec and La Semaine magazine). He has worked with all kinds of puppets, from hand, rod and string to tabletop, shadow and giant puppets.
