Introductory theatre sound workshop
Ever wanted to run a sound board?
Puppets Up! is proud to offer an introductory 8-hour sound workshop taking place across two evenings – April 14 and 28 from 6:00 – 10:00pm at the Almonte Old Town Hall .
Participants will learn the basics of sound used in technical theatre production and will be able to assist in theatrical productions at any theatre.
The workshop is being led by Ken Friesen, a Juno award-winning recording engineer who has worked on over 200 albums including those of The Tragically Hip, Monkey Junk, and Blue Rodeo. He specializes in live mixing and has experience working in clubs, boardrooms, theatres, and hockey rinks and football stadiums for tours.
Cost: $275 per participant (full subsidy available to participants who agree to volunteer at Puppets Up! events in 2023 and 2024).
Note casual income is possible with this training!

Introductory theatre lights workshop
Light up your local theatre scene!
Puppets Up! is proud to offer an introductory 8-hour lights workshop across two evenings – May 26 and June 2 from 6:00 – 10:00pm at the Almonte Old Town Hall.
Participants will learn the basics of lights used in technical theatre production and will be able to assist in theatrical productions at any theatre.
The workshop is being led by Jon Lockhart, Technical Director at the University of Ottawa’s Theatre Department where he teaches lighting and stage production. He has also been doing lighting design for theatre companies for the past 20 years. On the side, you will find him entertaining crowds, juggling fire, doing crazy circus antics and performing at various festivals and events across Canada.
Cost: $275 per participant (full subsidy available to participants who agree to volunteer at Puppets Up! events in 2023 and 2024).
